-ish

from Triad by KoriSoron

about

This piece is inspired by the Hindustani music of Northern India and only uses 5 notes in the entire piece (E, G#, A, B and D) (Side note Scott does sneak a few F's in to add to the rhythm of the tune.) .

The piece starts with a brief open introduction to set the mood for the piece (Called an "Alap"in Hindustani music), this is followed by a formal composition, then by soloing from Farzad on Electric Violin, Scott on acousitic guitar then some "trading solos" from Farzad and Scott before ending with a Tihai – which is a stylistic rhythmic repetition to mark the end of the piece.

The pieces was inspired by John McLaughlin's Skakti project which combined North and South Indian traditions. Since the tune was kind of Shakti-ish, and since the ending figure wasn't a "true" Tihai (ie was Tihai-ish) we decided to just embrace the "ish-ness" of the composition.
