Ganamurti Melakarta

from Triad by KoriSoron

/

about

Carnatic (traditional South Indian) Music) has 72 Melakartas which is, in a profound over-simplification, a kind of 7-note scale with the same ascending and descending notes.

Ganamurti Melakarta has a scale formula of b2, bb3, 4, 5, b6, 7. In letter names, starting from the note "A" it would be spelled - A, Bb, Cb, D, E, F, G#, A.

Scott decided to use this Melakarta as a melodic and harmonic device to create a kind of smokey bluesey vibe for this Indo Funk/Jazz tune. The middle section with the open chords was created by running the piezo output of the guitar through a volume pedal and a delay with a long delay time to add to the mysterious sound of the tonal clusters he's playing.
